Myths Surrounding Child Health and Healthcare In Nigeria/Africa – Beneficial

True Facts

When you come back from any outing especially at mid day you must rinse your breast before you breastfeed your child…

COMMENT: This is to promote hygiene, that is cleaning of the breast

You must not breastfeed your child with tears in your eyes

COMMENT: Your emotion affects your breast milk flow. A sad, moody nursing mother, n one who also has not had good rest/sleep may not produce enough milk. However, the happier you’re, the more your flow .

A mom should never allow her baby fall from her back. Otherwise, the child will only know bad luck.
So many others that I have forgotten

COMMENT: False, but good myth at least for prevention of head injury not necessarily the bad luck part

Yellow cloth makes baby eyes yellow and I was told as a pregnant woman you sit down properly so that your baby girl Vagina won’t be wide.

COMMENT:  False. But Good myth. For hygiene purpose and that doesn’t count if your baby is in diaper I guess

Thanks for the information I had gathered on this blog so far. On myths surrounding child health, a pregnant woman must not eat banana, it makes ur child have ‘oka ori’. She must also not eat snails, her child’s mouth will always drool with saliva. When u are in the habit of crossing ur leg during pregnancy, ur baby might turn out breech. etc…
